Hello! I am Emily and I am a Paediatric Speech Pathologist at Inside Out Therapy.
During my Speech Pathology career, I have worked in a mix of private practice and specialised day care settings. During this time, I worked with a range of children with different backgrounds: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Trisomy 21, Cerebral Palsy and Global Developmental Delay. Autism Spectrum Disorder has always been a deeply meaningful area of practice for me as many of my favourite people in my life are Autistic. During my Speech Pathology career, I have been so grateful for the opportunity to support and connect with families navigating the complexities (and celebrating the joys!) of the autistic experience.
My interest areas include Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), early childhood language development and fostering interoceptive language development in GLP learners. Currently, I am expanding my skill set by undertaking beginner Auslan (Australian Sign Language) courses to enhance my ability to connect with friends that use sign to support their language or to communicate. Through a neurodiversity-affirming, child-led approach, my goal is creating meaningful communication experiences for all individuals. I am excited to further expand my skills to better empower children and families. My hope is that everyone that walks through the doors feels confident, valued, and truly heard in their abilities and who they are as people.
Outside of Speech Pathology, I have a passion project of building my Dance School to be a safe place for a range of different people. I have recently taken up hand sewing clothing pieces and am learning Portuguese, so I am able to communicate with my partner’s family. I have 3 cats that I absolutely adore.
