Following an initial assessment with your therapist, if recommended, your therapist will work with an allied health assistant to set up a program that is just right for your child. This will typically involve regular sessions at the same time each week or fortnight. This added layer of support means that your child will get more opportunities to practise and build skills across a range of fun activities.
Alternatively, you might engage an allied health assistant to offer support while waiting for your initial OT session. Or they may work in tandem with your OT, speech therapist, or counsellor.
Your allied health assistant can work with your child at one of our north Brisbane clinics, giving your child access to all our usual play-based activities and sensory items, with plenty of space to move around. This is a great option for kids that are already familiar with the space thanks to regular sessions with their OT, speechie, or counsellor.
Our allied health assistant can also work with your child in their home, school, kinder, or day care setting. This can give kids opportunities to practise skills outside of the clinic and work on goals specific to their home or community environments.
We offer a range of funding options. Many of our clients have NDIS funding (we accept self-managed or plan-managed funding only). If you do not have an NDIS plan, you may be able to get a GP referral to help cover the cost of therapy through a Mental Health Care Plan which can attract a Medicare rebate for up to 5-10 sessions per year. We also accept GP Medicare Plans (often known as Team Care Arrangements), as long as your plan has at least three sessions nominated to one of our therapists. You may also be entitled to rebates on your Health Fund. All of our fees are in line with the current NDIS pricing guide. We welcome all enquiries about pricing.
An allied health assistant acts as an occupational therapy assistant or speech and language therapy assistant. They work under the supervision of other health professionals (such as your OT, speech therapist, or counsellor) to support your child’s care. Many AHAs are qualified in allied health assistance or are undertaking a higher qualification, such as a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.
Most of our allied health assistant appointments are held in one of our north Brisbane clinics (either Kallangur or Burpengary). However, we sometimes offer mobile appointments at your child’s home, school, day care, or in the community.
Our allied health assistants work with kids of all ages, from newborn through to 17! We can work with a range of challenges and conditions, but we’re particularly focused on supporting neurodivergent kids with autism, ADHD, and trauma.
